Texas Super Fancy Face Daylily Flowers are Yellow with an etched, patterned eyezone, and picotee edge with teeth and tentacles. Seedling number Tet TK1, is a tetraploid introduction featuring striking yellow blooms with an etched, patterned eyezone and a distinctive picotee edge adorned with teeth and tentacles. The flower spans 6.25 inches in diameter, with an extended morning opening (emo) that enhances its ornamental appeal.
Supported by 24-inch scapes with 3–4-way branching, this mid-late season bloomer produces 12–18 buds per scape, ensuring a continuous floral display. The blooms are fragrant and demonstrate strong reblooming tendencies, making it an excellent choice for extended seasonal interest.
Highly adaptable, Tet TK1 exhibits semi-evergreen foliage and is fertile both ways, offering exceptional hybridizing potential for enhancing eye zone patterning and edge texture. This cultivar also possesses very good rust resistance, ensuring vigorous growth and disease resilience across diverse climates. Well-suited for USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4–10, Tet TK1 represents a dynamic addition to ornamental horticulture and daylily breeding programs.
The lineage of Texas Super Fancy Face traces back to a group of Carpenter seedlings, originally purchased by Bob Faulkner from Jack Carpenter. Among a dozen seedlings, only three proved hardy enough for northern climates, including TK1 and TK2, which were later entrusted to Tom Polston for his diploid breeding program. Recognizing their potential, Mike Holmes and Larry Grace acquired the seedlings, with a vision of developing patterned tetraploid hybrids.
After multiple years of conversion attempts by Larry Grace, Tetra TK1 successfully transitioned to tetraploid, revealing an extraordinary toothy edge. This breakthrough has led to heavy integration of Texas Super Fancy Face into breeding programs, focusing on toothy, northern-hardy pattern seedlings. With numerous future and current introductions derived from this lineage, Texas Super Fancy Face stands as a cornerstone of tetraploid patterned daylilies, demonstrating exceptional vigor, adaptability, and ornamental excellence
