Hybridizers Notes: Alien Hunter Daylily (Gossard, James) 2024 introduction (Heavenly Patterned Princess) x (Heavenly Rippled Water) Seedling number 1-19Tetraploid 36″ Early Season Semi-Evergreen emo Fragrant 8.5″ 3-4 way branching 15-20 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer. Unusual Form Type : Cascade Very good rust resistance. USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 4-10. The flowers display a rich palette, ranging from maroon and purple with intricate broken patterns to multiple shades of blues, browns, pinks, and roses. The scalloped eye zone adds to their allure, complemented by a vibrant green throat. Classified as a Cascade in the Unusual Form Type, this daylily, thriving in Florida, consistently marks the onset of the blooming season, typically in January and February. Remarkably, it undergoes reblooming in midseason and again in August. In the Ohio garden, its early-season bloom contrasts with the extra early flowering in the Florida climate. The plant also reblooms in the Ohio setting. Both parents, Heavenly Patterned Princess (a cross of Dark Magician Girl with Ripples and Reflections of Mort Mores) and Heavenly Rippled Water (a cross of Venetian Pools with Spacecoast Time Warp and tetra kaleidoscope effect with tetra Pattern Maker), contribute unique genetic characteristics. Heavenly Rippled Water, with its converted genetics, inherits traits from both sides, featuring wine-purple flowers with multiply patterned bands and an intense green throat with a blue-purple eye zone. Supernatural, a breakthrough in pattern breeding, presents wine-purple flowers with patterned bands, an intense green throat, and a captivating blue-purple eye zone radiating into multiple colors of blue, purple, and maroon on both petals and sepals. This pioneering hybrid results from a cross of tetra Dark Mosaic with tetra Crystal Blue Persuasion, both conversions of mine. Spacecoast Time Warp, derived from the Whale Tails and Ripples and Reflections line, combined with tetra kaleidoscope effect and tetra Pattern Maker, contributes exclusive genetics. Alien Hunter being a Semi-Evergreen, that is northern hardy, just needs to be dormant. I’ve been crossing kids of this years, Chaotic Results and Rainbow Butterfly kids to create the next generation. The ultimate goal is to produce a dormant everblooming, true spider, unusually formed superstar exhibiting neon colors of the rainbow. This unique daylily stands as a valuable resource for hybridizers and a stunning addition to any gardener’s landscape, promising to be an exquisite show flower.
